There is a good chance that you have already visited the MIMA, which is short for Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art.

During the opening weekend in mid-April alone, there were no fewer than 4,000 visitors queuing up to visit Brussels's newest cultural hotspot and to explore the stunning temporary exhibition by New Yorkers Maya Hayuk, Swoon, Momo, and the artist duo Faile. This tremendous success is largely due to the museum's unique approach: a focus on urban 2.0 culture, "culture without boundaries, constantly shifting between contexts and identities," as Raphaël Cruyt, one of the four founders of the museum, put it.

But it is not just about art. There is also the symbolic location of the 1,000-m2 building of the former Belle-Vue brewery in Molenbeek. A bridge over troubled water, as it were, which in the aftermath of the attacks of 22 March, even inspired The New York Times to give it some hopeful editorial attention. Raphaël Cruyt again: "A way to challenge the persistent image of Molenbeek as a dangerous neighbourhood." Iconoclast, quoi!
