Experimental: Jardin Essentiel

A fascinating, but ephemeral, experience is currently on offer at the Duden park. The Jardin Essentiel project, which is due to move on 16 September to the Pede park in Anderlecht, explores connections between nature and cultivation.

In late June, it created a kitchen garden with more than 30 varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants, which is surrounded by three pavilions. We particularly like the sessions, due to take place throughout the month of August, at which the public can find out about different kinds of distillation based on the plants grown there. All that alchemical activity will result in a series of products – solvents, mother tinctures, simple drinks, balms, and vinegars – whose mysteries will be explained. There will also be talks, artistic interventions, DJ sets, and a variety of workshops. All the work of Parckdesign, which previously (in 2014) took over Thurn/Tour & Taxis for one of its projects.
