At the Sundance, Cannes, and Deauville film festivals, Captain Fantastic drew enormous attention from both audiences and jury members. It is a crowd-pleaser in the tradition of Little Miss Sunshine: eccentric, heart-warming, reasonably funny, and alternative but never too highbrow.

Great performances from Viggo Mortensen and the child actors help you to forgive the occasional moments of implausibility. Isolated from society, a father devotes his heart and soul to raising his children. They don't know anything about television, smartphones, soft drinks, Pokémon, or Christmas, but they speak seven languages, are incredibly fit, know survival techniques and the constitution by heart, and can discuss the most important schools of thought. Jealous? Forced contact with the outside world has taught these six super children that their father's teaching methods, anti-capitalist attitude, and their isolation has serious downsides. A fun film that will keep you talking till the sun comes up.
