Battle of the Sexes reconstructs the event Hollywood style. The American tennis legend and multiple grand slam champion competed against Bobby Riggs, an ex-champion player who had expressed derision about women’s tennis. Billie Jean King felt obliged to play against Riggs in the so-called Battle of the Sexes. Unfortunately, this film is less combative. But the enjoy able performances from Emma Stone and Steve Carell just manage to keep this smooth mainstream film upright.
