An extremely competent woman attacks one of the impregnable fortresses of conservative America. The makers of Miss Sloane presumably expected Hillary Clinton to win the presidential elections. But things turned out differently.

Jessica Chastain plays an exceptionally cunning, lonely, and ambitious lobbyist who surprises herself by not justifying the unjustifiable for once. Miss Sloane takes on one of the richest and most powerful lobbies: the American weapons industry.

The intimidating and misanthropic character and the brilliant performance by Chastain did not get the razor-sharp political thriller that they deserve. It doesn't help that director John Madden (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) has completely minimised his own role. The scripts, dialogues, and one-liners ("What the fuck is this? Jerry Maguire") could have used much more work.

By constantly trying to amaze us, and failing at every turn, Miss Sloane packs much less of a punch than it might have.
