In Thelma, Joachim Trier, the director of the introspective Oslo, 31. August, has made a variation on Brian De Palma’s horror classic Carrie.
The young Thelma moves to Oslo to study. There she has her first taste of love. Love for another girl. This intense experience causes psychogenic attacks and unleashes paranormal powers that she cannot control. Trier has ventured into the supernatural with the use of CGI, but without losing interest in his characters and themes like sexual repression and extremism.
