Foxtrot: the sorrow of Israel

If film director Samuel Maoz (Lebanon) is to be believed, things are not going well in Israel. In his tragic triptych, he explores how traumas that have been suffered might unexpectedly cause problems and he insinuates that each new generation is burdened with these traumas.

The director devised a new style for each of the three chapters. Each chapter is set in one location and elicits different feelings and questions.

Moaz’s Foxtrot is not an invitation to an enjoyable dance in a circle. He is interested in the idea that you can dance in any direction that you like during a foxtrot, but that the end always brings you back to the beginning. You might call this fate, and a nightmare.
