Uber-brand Levi’s heard cyclists’ desires and has launched a new collection of men’s trousers: the Commuter Series. They are tailor-made for hip and practical city cyclists, available in select (bicycle) shops in Brussels.

The collection was launched last year in the United States, and was massively successful. Numerous blogs and forums heatedly discussed whether the collection would also be released in Europe. The good news for jeans-wearing cyclists is that the collection was launched here this month and is available in official Levi’s stores and select bicycle retailers.
What makes this collection so special? At a cursory glance, it appears to be a series of simple trousers, but it’s all in the details. For example, the trouser legs were not allowed to be too wide. So Levi’s opted for the most popular men’s cut, the Slim Jean 511. For the Commuter Series, the brand experimented with new fabrics and production materials. The so-called NanoSphere treatment makes the fabric waterproof and stain-resistant and a 3M Scotchlite reflecting tape ensures good visibility in the most important places. There is also just enough stretch in the fabrics to ensure comfortable movement. The crotch and back pockets are reinforced and every pair comes with a utility waistband to store a U-lock. Finally, all the trousers have a higher back rise that provides extra cover while cycling.
This all sounded very promising, so my partner eagerly set off to the store. They fit very well, so he immediately bought two pairs (sound familiar?): the rough jeans and the beige trousers. Men on clothes are generally very brief, but this time I detected quite some enthusiasm. The bike lock fits in the waistband perfectly, the jeans are very comfortable, and when you roll up the legs slightly, the reflective tape is subtly but efficiently revealed. The jeans hit the nail on the head.
This collection has a range of jeans in various colours and lengths, a matching shirt and a jeans jacket. Prices are around 89 euro and Levi’s has already presented the Commuter Series autumn/winter collection.
