During the “reuse/recycle weekend” at the beginning of May, the very first Oxfam second hand shop for men opened in the Vossenstraat/rue des Renards. It is the 12th Oxfam shop in Brussels, and the 42nd in Belgium. Second hand aficionados will know that there was already an Oxfam shop in the Marollen/Marolles district, at Hoogstraat 243 rue Haute. You can find a range of women’s and men’s clothes there, as well as old tableware. Because of the considerable demand for men’s clothing and the limited selection due to space restrictions, Oxfam went in search of a nearby location. In Vossenstraat/rue des Renards they found one in a building owned by an artist/customer who was a regular visitor to Hoogstraat/rue Haute.
The shop is full of immaculate shirts, trousers, jackets, T-shirts, and jeans. Each item of clothing was selected at the Oxfam warehouse and then washed and ironed by volunteers. They are happy to help you find a new outfit in the shop. A pair of trousers costs about 10 euro, a shirt about 7 euro, and a jacket around 25 euro. You should certainly also check the basket of ties at the cash desk as you will find some great neckwear for only 3 euro a piece.
If you are looking for hip vintage, this Oxfam shop is not the right place to come (try the shop at Vlaamsesteenweg 104 rue de Flandre). But there is certainly enough choice to put together a trendy outfit. And a new load of second hand stuff is delivered every Thursday. Suits and shirts, for example, in every style and size. We picked up a nice looking and slightly worn leather jacket for 15 euro, a pine green wool cardigan by Lacoste for 10 euro, and a pair of jeans with a centre crease for 12 euro. The Club Brugge scarf, on the other hand, just made us laugh.
