A shop that sells nothing but socks and tights might sound a bit yawn-inducing, but nothing could be further from the truth. Just go have a look at Simone Simone in Elsene/Ixelles.
Sarah Jacobs opened her shop in early April, a stone’s throw away from place Fernand Cocqplein. She chose the name Simone because she is inspired by women like the French author Simone de Beauvoir and the American singer Nina Simone. Sarah then doubled the name in tribute to our two legs and feet. Once inside the cosy Simone Simone, you will find everything you need to treat your lower extremities. From woolly socks to sexy panties with a bow, or corrective tights that offer leg support. Men can choose from the collection of colourful Happy Socks, and a range of classic styles (and long underwear for cold days) is coming soon.
The women’s selection is more extensive. The plastic legs on the wall display the various tights, with bright colours, crazy prints, a delicate pattern, or made in strong, supporting material. A few of the brands: Maison Close, Pamela Mann, and Pierre Mantoux. If you really can’t find a single pair of socks to suit you, Sarah (a graphic artist by training) has the solution: choose your own print for a pair of original panties. In fact, a few times per year, she plans a collaboration with an artist, to make a collection of limited edition legwear, accompanied by a festive show.
Besides socks, there are also some accessories like scarves and foldable ballet flats. You carry them in your handbag and get them out when your feet hurt from wearing high heels. And if you want to put your best foot forward this summer, you can head to Simone Simone on Thursdays for a pedicure, reflexology, epilation, or drainage.
