Radio Modern, the organiser of the swinging retro dance evenings, has just launched a new initiative: every other week in June, they will be hosting a burlesque evening at Le Berger, the famous former rendezvous hotel in art deco style that has recently been renovated. Follie Follies, as the event has been named, is intended to revitalise the heyday of chic burlesque clubs. To this end, Radio Modern has appealed to the professional services of an immaculately dressed crooner, a naughty, burlesque starlet, and DJ Nasty Bartender who will play the best vintage surf, swing, and cha cha cha records. Ben Mouling of Radio Modern: “We hope to draw a crowd to this unique location in preparation for the big burlesque shows we are planning at La Tentation in the future. About fifteen artists will perform there, while at Le Berger there will be two. This small scale also has an asset: nowhere can the audience get closer to the artists. Follie Follies is not really a performance, it is more of an animated restaurant evening that evokes the atmosphere of old nightclubs with vintage exotica, jazz music, and a crooner host. The evening also has an amorous twist: we provide the foreplay and if they wish, the audience can spend the night at the hotel afterwards.” [laughs]
Just like at the regular Radio Modern dance evenings, the suggested dress code is retro evening wear. “We aren’t being elitist, but people who come dressed up just fit into the whole concept better.” This concept includes a special Follie Follies menu including champers (€39/person), though it is not compulsory. Visitors can also just have a drink at the café cum restaurant and enjoy the free act. If you would like dinner, we advise you book in advance.
