Yes, in Ocean’s 8 Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna show themselves to be equally good and complex robbers as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon in Ocean’s Eleven.

Unfortunately, they are let down by the spineless mise en scène and the shallow direction by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games), and an unforgiveable total lack of tension. That’s deadly for a heist film, as is a series of great actresses who are stuck playing characters that have only one talent or character trait.
