The macaquinhos dance is not quite as popular as the macarena yet, and it has caused quite a commotion in Brazil. Some people don’t want to see government money disappearing up artists’ rear ends and don’t like the idea of treating the body as a metaphor for the world – with the hierarchical division between tops and bottoms (North and South), that might find some balance and equality in the most democratic, but also most taboo opening in the human body.
