Phantom Thread (Paul Thomas Anderson)

Phantom thread is the swan song of a remarkable actor. Daniel Day-Lewis is completely inhabiting an astonishing character for the last time. Reynolds Woodcock is a couturier who lives to work and makes the most beautiful dresses in post-war England. He is assisted by his sister, and the ever-present spirit of their dead mother. His new muse, Alma, refuses to be pushed aside once he has finished with her. She wants to stay in his life and begins to fight for it increasingly forcefully. More than a wondrous, beautifully told story, Phantom Thread is great and enchanting cinema. We were suddenly struck by a sense of sadness during the final credits.
