Blessing of motorbikes and collection for a police officer wounded on March 22nd

After Mass today, Father Dirk Vannetelbosch blessed motorbikes as he does every year. A collection was also made for a police officer who was wounded on March 22nd in Zaventem.

The blessing of motorbikes in Jette is a yearly event. On Thursday morning, 425 bikers showed up with their wheels to be blessed by Father Dirk.

It's re not all Catholics who come to this blessing. “People of all faiths come to be blessed. It's a day of solidarity between bikers", says Vannetelbosch. There are also Muslims and atheists, and everyone is welcome.

Vannetelbosch is happy with the big turnout. On this special day, he asked that people dig deeper in their wallets during the collection, give notes rather than coins. The proceeds are going to help Ben Bergen, a police officer who was seriously wounded during the terrorist attacks on March 22nd.
