The (fictional) Brazilian Bacurau realizes that it is suddenly no longer on the map. The tanker that supplies water to the village has been attacked. Do the rich, heavily armed foreigners have something to do with that?
Bacurau brews a slightly eccentric mixture using elements from the western, the political allegory, the ethnographic portrait, gruesome horror, folklore, magic realism, and psychedelia.
The problems with tension and tempo did not stop the Cannes Film Festival from giving the film its Jury Prize.
