What will happen to the Flamingo café in Lakensestraat is not clear. The place, that's been closed since May 16, did not open on the date planned. Also manager Paul De Béthune is not being very clear.

Since mid-May, the largest pub in town has been closed. Officially, because the electrical wiring had to be redone. The bar was supposed to open on May 21.

However this wasn't the case. According to manager Paul De Béthune, the reopening was postponed. “I don't know when it'll be open again.”

Rumour has it that the Duvel Moortgat brewery is looking for a new manager. Whether this is true, was not confirmed by De Béthune.

Since the summer of 2015, the café shares the building with restaurant “Balls & Glory”, run by chef Wim Ballieu. The restaurant is still open.

Café Flamingo was not only a commercial initiative. The Town of Brussels called upon café owner Frédéric Nicolay to regenerate the district, where prostitution is rife.
