In beeld: Brussel als decor voor ideeën, slogans en bedenkingen

De coronacrisis stelt onze samenleving op de proef. De sociale kloof tekent zich nog duidelijker af, de politieke onmacht tegenover het virus is groot, en de democratie lijkt op haar grenzen te stoten. Sommigen juichen het einde van het kapitalisme toe, anderen vrezen dat de politiestaat in de steigers staat.

Eén ding is zeker: burgers denken na over wat ze voortaan willen. De straat lijkt misschien een no-gozone geworden, maar ook een vrijplaats voor ideeën, slogans en bedenkingen. Opdat het binnenkort niet opnieuw business as usual wordt. Een fotoreportage van Bart Dewaele.

La philosophie de la rue
FR/ La crise du coronavirus met notre société à rude épreuve. La fracture sociale devient de plus en plus évidente, l'impuissance politique face au virus est grande, et la démocratie semble atteindre ses limites. Certains se réjouissent de la fin du capitalisme, d'autres craignent que l'État policier ne soit en train de se déployer. Une chose est sûre : les citoyens réfléchissent à ce qu'ils veulent désormais. La rue est peut-être devenue une zone interdite, elle est aussi un sanctuaire pour les idées, les slogans et les réflexions. Pour que, bientôt, les choses ne reprennent pas comme avant.

EN/ The corona crisis is putting our society to the test. The social divide is becoming starker than ever, there is profound political impotence with respect to the virus, and democracy itself appears to have run up against its ultimate limits. Some are celebrating the end of capitalism; others fear that the police state is on the rise. One thing is certain: citizens are reflecting on what it is that they want in the future. The street may well resemble a no-go zone, but it has also become a forum for ideas, slogans, and reflection. So that we don't simply revert to business as usual once the most acute danger has passed.
